Yes, ANY dream will do!
I was lounging about with my wife recently listening to some great music. We are huge fans of live entertainment in its many varied forms. Our very favorite is plays, and if they are well written & performed, musicals are right at the top of the list. So, as it happens the music was a collection of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s songs from various plays. It was filling our hearts with the joy of the music in combination with the sweet memories that often are attached to each song.
Those of you how know the genre will recognize the title above as a song from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It is one of those plays that has fun with Biblical History while remaining pretty close to an accurate depiction. My thoughts took me away to the actual thing that was being said. A dream in your life makes a difference. A big difference.
As we listened I was suddenly jolted as another memory came blasting back to me. One of the most motivational of speakers I have ever heard (and this is going back 25 yeas) popped into my mind. Her name was Connie Agard (unsure of last name) but she spoke in an amazing way about dreams and how they affect us…..Well let’s just say she affected me in a big way and living her philosophical explanation has brought me no little success.
Her primary statement was this, ”Your dream IS you. No dream, NO YOU. What do you think happened to the winos or the potheads? Do you think they just woke up one day and said, ‘Gee, I think I’ll be a wino.’ No, that’s not what happened. They GAVE UP on their dream. They sold it or traded it for some fantasy, or someone told them it was stupid to dream and ridiculed them.” Her explanation was so clear that I knew right away, and I mean – I knew for sure, that she was right.
So what about you? We often find ourselves going around & around on a little (or big) treadmill, like hamsters do. We are moving, but going nowhere. Let me ask you this. Did you ever sit down and ponder just what is truly important in your life? What is it that you believe in and will fight for, or even tougher, will work HARD and LONG for? If you have done that, I applaud you. And I will ask you two things as a follow up. How long ago did you do it? And much, much, much more important: Are you doing anything in your day to day life to achieve those things that are genuinely important to you?
You have a dream. Perhaps you have many. Nurture them. Keep them away from the negative thinkers who only talk junk and how ‘Nice guys finish last’. I have a response to that, and I use it every time. I say ‘You haven’t been listening to the right people, Nice Guys Finish Anywhere They Want To.’ Because that is what I believe and am making happen in not only my life but my family and my friends. You see, one person can make a big difference. A difference in their own life.
So what about you? Where will your dream lead you to today? Is Gaming one of your dreams? Are you willing to work hard and intelligently to make it happen for you? If so – you will succeed. If you burn with a passion for your goals – then with learning and perseverance you will win.
There is another song from the same play called “Close every door.” It is, to me, the proof of Joseph’s belief. You see, it is easy to get ‘fired up’ over your dreams. But there comes a time in all of our lives when the world wants to crush that dream right out of our heart. This is where most give in, or give up. There is an old saying that we need to carry with us in life. Here it is, “I might give out, but I’ll never give up!” Now that’s the thing. In the play, Joseph is put in prison although innocent, and they have shut him in a cell in a dark lonely dungeon.
They know that loneliness can break the spirit. But Joseph goes on to sing, close the doors, block out the light, it doesn’t matter for the belief I have is firm in my heart and NOTHING can quench that. I think it is more than obvious how that can be applied to our lives. It was in mine, and boy did it pull back the shades. We’ve got to remember that this is not some dress rehearsal, it is the one and only real thing. This is life, live it! Seize the Day, Seize the Hour, Seize the Moment!
“You life is yours alone. Rise up and live it.”
