When we were kids, we all dreamed of being the next superstar, rockstar, baseball hero, etc… didn’t we?
We all knew that we were going to grow up and be rich, popular, successful and admired by millions of people around the world. There was no doubt in our mind that we were going have everything we wanted.
When did that change? When did we consciously or unconsciously decide to let go of those dreams? Who did we let into our minds so they could heap a bunch of crap on top of those dreams and make them impossible to achieve?
At what point in our lives did we let that dream fade away into the land of regrets?
We all have so much potential, so many possibilities in our lives and we have given in and forgotten about all those wonderful things we wanted to do in our lives?
Can you imagine being 10 or 11 years old and when you picture what your life is going to look like in 20 or 30 years and saying:
“When I’m 35 years old I want to be divorced with 3 kids, have a mortgage that is larger than the value of my home, have 2 car payments, a crappy job and no joy in my life!”
Nobody thinks like that and yet here we are.
Okay so not everybody is cut out to be President, Madonna, Alex Rodriguez or Peyton Manning but does that mean we just give up and accept poverty, anger and pessimism?
Is it possible that there is some sort of happy medium? Is it possible that we can convert those dreams into worthwhile lifelong goals that you can work towards in your life? Okay so maybe we aren’t going to become President but maybe we can become mayor or councilperson and affect some change in the area you live in. maybe we aren’t destined to write or sing 50 number one hits but we can a good enough musician to play the local bar scene on weekends and do what you love doing.
You might be thinking that I’m talking about “settling for” and I want you to realize that I’m not. I’m talking about pursuing your dreams in a responsible manner that allows you the most opportunity to do what you can with what you have and where you are at currently.
Nobody gets elected President without knowledge and experience first….so get started in your local community now.
Nobody can become the next Elvis without knowing how to play an instrument and sing.
So yes, I believe that dreams can and do come true if you work at it and if you don’t ever give up no matter what life throws at you.
Is it going to be easy? NO
Is it going to be fun all the time? NO
Is anything in life worth having easy and fun all the time? NO
SO WHAT? Does pain and difficulty mean that it’s not worth doing?
I certainly don’t think so and I hope you don’t either.
Success in life and achieving your dreams in life are journey’s more important than you will eve know.
