In my research into the field of self improvement I have discovered that nearly all the currently popular books, tapes, CDs, etc. had their origins in books that were written sometimes over 100 years ago.
One of the most famous in recent years is “The Secret” created by Rhonda Byrne. The book and even more so, the film were huge hits. The Secret was featured on two episodes of Oprah — and as the film reached number one on the Amazon DVD chart in March 2007, the book version of The Secret reached number one on The New York Times bestseller list. For much of February through April 2007, both the book and the DVD versions were #1 or #2 at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Borders. Simon & Schuster released a second printing of 2 million copies of The Secret — “the biggest order for a second printing in its history.”
Rhonda Byrne told a Newsweek interviewer that her inspiration for creating the 2006 hit film The Secret and the subsequent book by the same name, was her exposure to Wallace Wattles’ book “The Science of Getting Rich.” Byrne’s daughter, Hayley, had given her mother a copy of the Wattles book to help her recover from her breakdown.
The Science of Getting Rich published in 1910 begins with this statement, “This book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward.” It has never gone out of print and is still widely quoted in self help circles. Here is your opportunity to go right to the source instead of a derivative work.
As a work in the Public Domain, it is available in many places. But I have found in today’s fast paced world many people find it easier to listen than to read. So I am making this classic work available here in two forms. First, I compressed the entire book in MP3 format in a three zip files. You will need an unzip program (I recommend the free to download & use program 7-Zip at http://www.7-zip.org/) in order to open the file. The zip files contain all the files listed separately below.
A (Preface through Chapter 5),
B (Chapter 6 through 11),
C (Chapter 12 through 17)
Additionally the entire work is available through the links immediately below, one Chapter at a time. If you click on a link the file will simply play ‘live’ through your computer. If you right click and Save the file you can listen to it later on PC or MP3 player, etc.
The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles
I am sure you will benefit from this all time classic book. But remember, anytime you are studying from a general teaching source (as opposed to a personal trainer/mentor) use the supermarket approach. Take from it what you need & want, and leave anything that you don’t.
