Why was I asked to contribute to StudentofWinning?
Who am I to think I can offer advice and suggestions to you about being a better person?
Why should you listen to a word I say?
Those are some really good questions and the honest answer is I don’t know.
I don’t know if anything I write will mean anything to you and/or help you make some changes in your life but I certainly hope so. I will tell you right up front that I am not an expert, I don’t have a PhD in Psychology, Sociology or anything for that matter. What I do have is almost 40 years of shuffling around this mortal coil and I have had some success in life and some failure in life. I have beaten myself up and lifted myself up, I have been beaten down and been lifted up and I have been depressed and suicidal and I have been emotionally moved by the graciousness and wonder that human beings are capable of displaying.
I have read 40+ books on making yourself better, I have listened to thousands of tapes and CD’s on the subject and I have attended countless seminars costing me thousands of dollars in the hopes of being a better me. Have I succeeded? No but I am a lot better than I was and getting better everyday.
Part of the reason that I decided to help out on this blog was because I realized recently just how blesses I have been in my life and realized that it was time to start giving back a little bit and because I have found that writing enables me to solidify an idea or a concept in my own mind and utilize the information much more effectively.
I am a Masterpiece in progress so please forgive me if I occasionally contradict myself or make a comment that just doesn’t make sense. I am not perfect…just ask my kids!
To me self-improvement is a lifelong journey and not a destination…I don’t believe that I will ever reach a point in my life where I can say “I have arrived…I am the best person I can possibly ever be” and so I read, I listen, I attend and I write.
We will cover topics that on the surface don’t seem to have anything to do with self-improvement but once we dig into them a little bit you will hopefully realize that they do and will hopefully read something here that will enable you to make a small improvement in your life or in the life of a loved one.
I have many belief’s in my life that I will share with you over time and here is the first one:
In a perfect world a single reading of Think & Grow Rich by Napolean Hill by every person on this planet would fix every problem that exists or will exist.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) this is not a perfect world and there is no silver bullet. So since we are talking about reality and specifically your reality I want you to realize something: You gotta do the work to get the result!
You are not going to read a single blog post or book, attend a single seminar or listen to a single audio and POOF you become the person you always wanted to be. It is going to take time, effort and some suffering to get anywhere near that person but it is going to be worth every single second of it.
We only get one trip around this place so we need to make it the best trip we can possibly make it! Since you are here now my guess is that you are looking for something more so you have already taken the first steps on that journey.
Keep going no matter what…don’t ever stop!
